Yup, this one's political.
To start: I am a Republican, member of the NRA (National Rifle Assn.) and TSRA (Texas State Rifle Assn.), and a conservative Tea Party member. I have a concealed-carry permit, which means that in Texas and its reciprocating states I can carry a concealed weapon. So needless to say, I'm a fan of the Second Amendment. I'm also a Methodist, although I don't attend church regularly. I believe in personal responsibility.
In addition, (perhaps strangely to the few readers out there given what I've just written) I'm fervidly, profoundly pro-choice. I believe in a woman's right to choose her own method of birth control as well, and I believe that she has the right to decide when, where and how she will procreate. I believe it's up to her and her significant other, and that nobody has the right to tell them otherwise. And if they elect abortion, that's their business. The only thing I'm not sure of here is how much, if any, insurance should pay. Also, I don't think abortion should be a method of birth control, but that's another can of stinky tuna.
I am horrified at the newest regulations requiring vaginal ultrasounds AND THEN a 24-hour waiting period for abortions. I am shocked at how far the women's movement has fallen. Insurance will pay for Viagra, but not birth control pills? What in the hells is up with that?
The clown college the Republican Party has become is too embarrassing for words. If there was ANYbody out there to vote for other than the current crop of dipshits, I would. It was bad enough when (P)rick Perry decided to throw his ignorant hat in the ring to make an ill-advised run for President.* Now we have (P)rick Santorum to deal with, and he is single-handedly trying to push women's rights back to the Dark Ages, where we were chattel to be bought, traded and sold.
I wish there was some way to sweep Congress clear. Then maybe we could start over with a fresh crop of diphits that could be replaced. I can't for the life of me remember who had this idea, but he was certainly right: nobody who wants to be a professional politican should be allowed to be in office.
*I'm ashamed to admit it, but I voted for him. Twice. In my defense, I thought he was the lesser of two dipshits...
